The Importance of Intuitive Health Tracking
Accessibility for All.
When I was 17 years old, I was diagnosed with Lupus. As I live with an autoimmune disorder, I understand what it’s like to lose hope.
Driven to inspire and empower others, I utilize my skills and creativity to provide opportunities that make people feel seen, supported, and less alone on their journey.
This project is dedicated to those who also suffer from chronic illness.
01 The Opportunity
Understanding and managing your health should be easy and accessible to everyone.
It’s frustrating when you don’t understand what causes the pain in your body. Many patients struggle to accurately remember and explain symptoms they experience at a doctor’s visit. In return, physicians have trouble diagnosing and treating patients, causing prolonged health concerns and sometimes, incorrect treatment.
This app is designed to assist you in tracking and understanding the symptoms you experience.
“If opening your eyes, or getting out of bed, or holding a spoon, or combing your hair is the daunting Mount Everest you climb today, that is okay.”

The beginning stages of REVIVE started to fall into place.
02 Discovery
A common theme was discovered by comparing the current health tracking platforms on the market: dashboards.
Dashboards provide a concise summary of items users need to complete or achieve. This is helpful when prioritizing what users need to do on the platform.
Analysis
Competitor
By comparing the following current health-tracking platforms on the market, I gathered information on the user’s journey when logging activities on the app.

User Interview Debrief:
Understanding how both patients and physicians manage their health while uncovering their thoughts about tracking platforms
The group of four contained two physicians and two patients who frequently visited the doctor due to health conditions. This assisted in understanding health monitoring and tracking from the person giving treatment and those receiving treatment.
Who is involved?
Differences?
One patient discussed the roadblocks that arise when visiting the doctor, as they struggle to remember the frequency, dates, times, etc. of their migraines.
One physician’s patient demographic was mainly children while the other physician’s demographic was adults and the elderly (primarily men).
One patient emphasized utilizing a health tracking watch assisted in diagnosing their heart condition, while another patient likes using their device that assisted in tracking migraines.
The research suggests that the two patients interviewed have found tracking devices beneficial, while physicians would recommend it more to symptomatic patients.
All suggested they can become healthier, but also currently have either a workout or exercise routine they utilize throughout the week.
The two physicians found it easier to understand certain patient cases, and the two patients found it very helpful in understanding their symptoms.
Similarities?

All users suggested documentation would be beneficial in their life.
03 Flows
Most platforms don’t have questions related or detailed enough for those who suffer from chronic pain daily. Discovering what the user needs was insightful as it assisted in developing task and user flows.
Task Flows
The two task flows I developed showcase what the user needs to do to complete a single task, such as entering symptoms and activities completed. This provides a linear path with no alternative pathways.

User Flows
The user flow represents the user’s journey and the actions and decisions they can take when navigating the platform. Providing alternative pathways to reach the endpoint gives users the freedom to choose which direction they want to take.

I wanted to make logging information as seamless as possible.
This way, users can feel that tracking is not a chore, but something beneficial they can do quickly throughout their day.

REVIVE’s foundation was formed with one goal: to enhance the benefits of health-tracking systems.
The platform serves as a cohesive space to log your daily activities, nutrition, and fatigue.
Symptom patterns can be uncovered all in the palm of your hand.
And in return, you can prevent and lessen the flare-ups you experience.
Goals
The Importance of Data
To say the least, managing a chronic condition is difficult. Those in your life may not understand the physical and mental pain you experience, while you may not fully understand it yourself.
Symptom management is key to living a healthy, full life with an illness.
During the first few months after my diagnosis, I became frustrated I wasn’t feeling better, as medication can only do so much.
I experienced symptoms, but I didn’t know how to prevent them.
I designed a way for information to be translated through clickable images, allowing logging information to be quick and simple.
Society has created the need for immediate gratification. Many don’t like to read lengthy paragraphs on a health tracking app.
Visuals
Symptoms are pinpointed and recorded automatically when a part of the body is clicked.

Because of the popularity of Apple and Android products, people are accustomed to a certain style of in a homepage library.
Inspired by the style of widgets, REVIVE provides easy navigation from logging into the app to entering symptoms.
It’s familiar, and less intimidating.

The following solutions were gathered through usability testing with four different users. Their feedback was honest and insightful, and in return, helped me make the final edits to the platform.
Usability Test Results
06
-
Increase weight and size of delete buttons, and place towards the bottom of the screen
Add minutes and hours for duration tracking instead of just minutes
-
Change the tracking portion and place it at the top of the screen, while heart rate, oxygen level, etc.. modules place on the bottom of the screen.
-
Take out the body image and just have it on the body pain screens.
Add medical terminology to the pain points and body when the user clicks the screen
-
For sleep, utilize a different form of measurement - could be a description box instead of a scale.
Ask general fatigue -
how long does it last? What are you able to do with fatigue?
At times, we get stuck on what works for us and sometimes forget what the target user is looking for. Conducting usability testing is very helpful in stepping outside your own ideations. It allowed me to understand what I did wrong, but also what I could do better.
The final stretch
The Conclusion.
To be honest,
Managing a healthy lifestyle is never easy, especially when many factors impact your flares. By tracking physical activity and symptoms, you can find patterns that will help you better understand what triggers your body.
You can regain control by finding ways to manage your pain with REVIVE.
Through the platform's development, I gained invaluable insights into my habits and areas for improvement. This project reinforced the significance of monitoring and personalized care in achieving a healthy lifestyle. As I continue to evolve personally and professionally, this project stands as a reminder of the power of empathy-driven design and its impact on improving lives.
